Broken screen

A cracked screen that convinces at arm’s length.

Procedurally generated fractures, a dead zone, glitch bands and an optional touch blocker. Everything is drawn in your browser — your device is perfectly fine.

Double-tap the top-left corner to exit · Block touches hides this bar

How to get out: double-tap the very top-left corner (within half a second), or reload the page. If touches are blocked, the corner gesture still works — that is the whole point of a prank.

How to use it

Three steps, no learning curve.

  1. 01

    Generate the damage

The cracks are drawn as vectors on the fly, so every load looks different. Press Regenerate until the break looks convincing.

  2. 02

    Go fullscreen

Tap the panel. Fullscreen plus a bezel-free black background is what sells the illusion — no browser chrome, no margins.

  3. 03

    Hide the controls

Switch on Block touches so taps and swipes do nothing at all. To get out, double-tap the very top-left corner within half a second.

Make it better

Small details that sell the illusion.

Use device brightness at full

A dim screen reads as an off screen. Max brightness makes the fracture highlights catch the eye.

Hand it over screen-first

Cover the edges on the way across. The illusion breaks the moment someone sees a browser bar or a home screen.

Say nothing

Do not claim you broke it. Let them discover it — the pause is the entire payoff.

FAQ

Common questions

How do I exit the prank?

Double-tap (or double-click) the extreme top-left corner of the screen within half a second. The controls return, and Escape or the on-screen exit closes fullscreen.

Is this a real screen break?

No. It is an SVG overlay rendered in your browser. Nothing is written to disk and no hardware is touched — you can close the tab at any time.

Why does the crack look different each time?

Each fracture is procedurally generated with randomised branch angles, segment lengths, web connections and impact points, so a repeat viewer cannot recognise the same pattern.

Will it fool someone?

At full brightness on a phone or tablet with the touch blocking on, convincingly — for a few seconds. For the best effect use a device with a screen protector and hand it over screen-first.

Is there a version that does not block touches?

Yes. Leave Block touches off and the page behaves normally: tapping still toggles fullscreen, which is handy while you set up the shot.

One tap and the screen is yours.
