Terms & Conditions

Fair terms, written to be read.

These terms cover every tool on Black Screen Free. They are short on purpose — use the site sensibly, understand the limits, and you will never need to think about them again.

Last reviewed: October 2026

Agreement to these terms

By using Black Screen Free you agree to these terms. If you do not agree with any part of them, please do not use the site. The terms apply to every page and every tool on blackscreenfree.com, including the guides and any downloaded files.

What this site is

Black Screen Free is a free collection of client-side browser tools for displaying solid colours, testing displays, and running visual pranks. Everything runs in your browser. There is no account, no subscription, no paid tier and no server-side processing.

The tools are offered for personal and professional use as-is. You do not need permission to use them, and we do not ask for credit.

Acceptable use

You are free to use the tools for anything lawful. In return, please do not:

  • Use the prank tools on medical, safety-critical, emergency or shared equipment.
  • Use a fake screen to deceive someone for financial gain, or to misrepresent the origin of any content.
  • Attempt to disrupt, overload, attack or gain unauthorised access to the site or its hosting.
  • Scrape or mirror the site in a way that harms its availability for other people.
  • Present the site, or a substantial copy of it, as your own product.

The prank tools

The broken screen, fake update, matrix and similar tools are harmless browser effects, but they are designed to look convincing. Only use them on your own device, or on someone else’s with their knowledge, and never where a momentary confusion could cause harm or distress.

Nothing in these tools writes to disk, changes settings, or touches your hardware. Closing the tab ends the effect.

No warranty

The site is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose. Every tool depends on your browser, your device and your display, and results will vary.

A black screen saves battery on OLED and AMOLED but not on LCD, LED or plasma, and a display test is a guide rather than a certified diagnostic. Where a tool page states a limitation, treat it as part of these terms.

Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, Black Screen Free is not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential loss arising from your use of the site or its tools. This includes, without limitation, damage to a display from leaving static content on screen for extended periods, loss of data, or wasted time.

You are responsible for how you use the tools, for the content you choose to display, and for any device you run them on.

Intellectual property

The design, text, illustrations and source code of this site belong to their respective owners. You may not republish the site as a whole, or pass the tools off as your own build.

The outputs you create with the tools are yours. A solid-colour image you export, or a screen you display, carries no claim from us and can be used freely, including commercially.

Files you create or load

Everything is handled locally. An uploaded logo is read in your browser and discarded when you close the tab. A downloaded colour image is generated on your device with the Blob API and never passes through a server, so we never see it and cannot recover it for you.

Availability and changes

The site is offered free and may change at any time. Tools can be added, altered or removed without notice, and no guarantee of uptime is made.

These terms may be updated as the site evolves. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated terms, and the date below will always reflect the latest revision.

Contact

Questions about these terms, or about anything else on the site, are welcome. The contact page explains how to reach us and what to expect in reply.

That is the whole agreement.
