Tips
  • • 8K exports use a lot of memory — close other tabs first.
  • • JPG is much smaller for very large plates.
  • • Grey 18% is the classic photographic reference.

How to use it

Three steps, no learning curve.

  1. 01

    Pick the colour

Use a preset, type a HEX value or open the picker. The preview swatch updates instantly and shows the exact value that will be exported.

  2. 02

    Choose a resolution

Standard sizes run from 480p up to 8K. If you need something specific — a 3000 × 1000 banner, a 1080 × 1920 story — type the width and height yourself.

  3. 03

    Export PNG or JPG

Everything is rendered on a canvas in your browser, so there is no upload and no waiting. JPG exports include a quality control for smaller files.

FAQ

Common questions

What are solid colour images used for?

Video editors use them as colour mattes, alpha backgrounds and placeholder media. Designers use them for swatch sheets, Instagram and story backgrounds, and thumbnail bases. Photographers use them as flat reference frames for white balance.

How large can the image be?

Up to 8K (7680 × 4320) and beyond with custom dimensions, limited only by your device’s memory. Very large exports may take a second or two and use a few hundred megabytes of RAM while encoding.

Is the image generated on a server?

No. The file is drawn onto a canvas element in your browser and exported with the Blob API. Nothing is uploaded, and no copy of your image exists anywhere but your device.

PNG or JPG — which should I choose?

Choose PNG for pixel-exact colour, transparency-capable workflows and lossless quality. Choose JPG when file size matters, such as large 8K images you only need as background plates.

Can I get a transparent PNG?

A fully transparent export is a separate case — every pixel would be empty, which most tools handle as an “empty alpha channel” test. Set the colour and use your editor’s alpha tools for transparency work.
