Fake update

A fake update that looks like it means business.

Four believable operating-system update screens with slow, deliberate progress and editable status text. Fullscreen it and let the illusion do the work.

Working on updates

0% complete

Don’t turn off your PC. This might take a while.

Stage 2 of 4 · preparing features

Tap anywhere for fullscreen · Esc to exit

Operating system

Lower is more believable — real updates crawl.

Progress

0%

Stage 2 of 4

Editable so the screen fits your scene or language.

How to use it

Three steps, no learning curve.

  1. 01

    Pick your operating system

Windows drives the classic blue “Working on updates” screen; macOS shows the Apple logo and a progress bar; Linux and BIOS scroll technical text.

  2. 02

    Set the pace

Slow is convincing. A progress bar that never quite arrives is far more believable than one that jumps to 100%.

  3. 03

    Go fullscreen and walk away

Tap the panel to fill the display. Combine with keep-awake so the prank does not end with your screen going to sleep.

Use with care

Funny on your own device. Not a support tactic.

This is a visual gag for filming, screenshots and harmless pranks. Please keep it that way — never use a fake update screen to stall, confuse or mislead someone who is relying on the machine, and avoid it on shared or work hardware where a fake outage could be taken for a real one.

FAQ

Common questions

How do I get out of it?

Press Escape, or tap the exit control that appears when you move the pointer or touch the screen. Nothing is installed and nothing is changed — it is just a page.

Is this legal to use?

On your own device, sure — it is a harmless gag. Do not use it on a shared or work device where it could be mistaken for a real outage, and never use it to delay or mislead someone who depends on the machine.

Will it fool someone?

On a phone or tablet, briefly. The illusion depends on fullscreen, full brightness and the right orientation. Avoid showing it on a screen with visible browser chrome.

Can I change the wording?

The status line under each progress bar is editable, so you can set the percentage label, minutes remaining or a custom message for your scene.

One tap and the screen is yours.
